Ana por Ana

Flamenco to tell the story of 17th-century playwright Ana Caro

Ana Caro de Mallén de Torres was known as “the greatest Spanish poetess.” Born to enslaved Morisco parents in 16th-century Granada, Spain, she became a celebrated playwright and poet in an era dominated by men. In this play, we tell and sing Ana’s story through flamenco music, reflecting on the deep roots and history of this universal art form in Andalusia, Spain.

Written and directed by Paula Rodríguez. Performance and Music by Ana Mar and Antonio Quero. A Histrion Teatro producción. Premiered at the International Festival of Classical Theatre in Almagro, Spain, and the FIDAE Festival, Uruguay (2025)
