GATOMAQUIA
Gatomaquia places Zapaquilda, the female protagonist of Lope de Vega’s poem, at the centre of a contemporary reimagining.
Through classical verse, live music, physical performance and contemporary sounds such as pop and trap, the production explores love, gender, desire and power from a feminist perspective.
Created by an all-female artistic team, the project brings the classics into dialogue with contemporary voices, questioning inherited narratives while opening them up to new audiences and new possibilities.
Directed and written by Paula Rodriguez. Based on La Gatomaquia by Lope de Vega. Production & Design: Claudia Sanchez.
Festival de Olite 2026 R&D in collaboration with Las Nenas Theatre. Performers: Cristina Tomás & Uxuri Etxegia.
